About
BasedMIP is a new paradigm for modeling future climate and ecology with a focus on advancing new approaches to scenarios to ensure models can be used as part of participatory planning activities. We are developing climate assessment tools that can more easily be used by educators, mediamakers, and anyone interested in exploring potential climate futures and ecological possibilities. We are also working to help repair exciting tools and climate modeling frameworks.
BasedMIP is organizing an emergent, collaborative process based at UC Davis that engages student researchers and faculty researchers across disciplines, including in STEM, the social sciences, the arts and humanities. All metrics, indicators, and modeling artifacts that are part of the tools we are developing are slated to undergo cross-disciplinary evaluation and peer-review, with a focus on accuracy, ethics, and legibility.
