Research

BasedMIP draws upon the latest research exploring the interconnection between human well-being and planetary well-being. It is being developed through a dynamic, collaborative process between UC Davis student researchers and faculty across disciplines, including in STEM, the social sciences, the arts and humanities.

Presently, BasedMIP is undergoing prototyping and testing. BasedMIP is slated to be "soft launched" in the 2025-26 academic year.

All metrics, indicators, and modeling artifacts in BasedMIP will be evaluated for accuracy, ethics, and legibility.

  • Accuracy. Beyond rigorous evaluation of all metrics and drivers, this work includes factoring in larger social and geopolitical contexts so to ensure all metrics and indicators are evaluated in a comprehensive and systemic way.
  • Ethics. The relational rhetoric of metrics for forms of historical bias, as well as long- and short-term impacts, with attention to reducing harm for disproportionately impacted communities.
  • Legibility. Experts in communication, rhetoric, and the arts will evaluate tools, metrics, indicators, data, and metadata early on, with an eye to ensuring the information offered by BasedMIP is accessible and comprehensible.
